| The Sunshine Coast has been chosen to host this year’s 2010 Queensland Business Icon Competition, bringing together young professionals from around the state to compete for the title of Business Icon and a prize pool worth $10,000. |

The competition is inspired by a range of reality TV shows and mixes the best elements of The Apprentice, Dragons Den and Australian Idol then combines it with the educational philosophy of Master Chef. Competitors will be tested to the limit and profiled throughout Queensland as an entrepreneurial thought leader. Business Icon is an initiative of the Advantage Foundation, a charity organisation designed to foster an entrepreneurial culture in young Australians promoting ethics, culture, diversity, environment and good health in business and community; building a bridge between education and employment for talented young Australians and potential employers. The Queensland competition has had such amazing success, in less than 3 months the event has been organised, sponsors found and over 150 of our brightest, young minds have applied to take part. The competition will run over an intense seven day period from July 5th to 12th and will see Queensland’s most talented young people performing a range of real-life business focused tasks designed by the events major sponsors. Tasks are created around a number of business issues such as Marketing, Sustainability, Innovation and Non-profit, with all IP going to the business sponsors to use. The major task will be performed by the final four contestants in front of 8 prominent judges at a business luncheon that you are all welcome to attend. This Luncheon will be hosted in the Event Centre by the Caloundra RSL another major sponsor for the event. Tickets are $68 each. Head of the Business Icon Advisory Board for Queensland Lorraine O’Neill says, “This is a great opportunity for Caloundra and the Sunshine Coast to be seen by the rest of Australia as fore-runners in supporting the youth of Queensland and provides business owners and sponsors the chance to be recognised locally, nationally and internationally.”
Business Icon’s Generation Y Advisor Lahnee Thomas, a Caloundra local, is a young entrepreneur herself running a successful Media business, Lahnee-t Media and Fitness Modelling career. “I love living on the Sunshine Coast. It is a thriving community and it’s great to see it will be made known to the rest of the country, not just as a tourism destination, but a region teeming with young talented people and a great business culture,” said Lahnee. This is a great networking opportunity as there will be many high profile business figures in attendance, including Tim Fairfax from Fairfax Media. Attendees will get to see firsthand the talented contestants and be part of a Sunshine Coast first event which will be broadcast on Channel Ten and streamed live to Singapore and the UK.
Although all of the sponsorship opportunities were quickly snatched up by local businesses we want to encourage all Caloundra Chamber members and any local businesses to support the event by coming to watch the final four competitors at the business luncheon on July 12th, tickets are available at a cost of $68 – why not book a table for your business and see what our young great minds can do!
