There you are buckled up in the front seat of a massive roller coaster. You have butterflies in your tummy, your excited and can't wait to get on with it. After all you have been dreaming of this for years.

You glance over to you family whom all have worried looks on their faces. You tell to them “not to worry this is going to be fun". As the ride lurches into motion and slowly starts to climb its way up to the first peak. You start thinking that this is great.  I should have done this years ago. But you didn’t see the dip ahead, with more turns and jerks, you wander if this is all worth it.

Having a business is like being in a rollercoaster ride. You go up, down and you have to go through a lot of twists and turns before you reach the final destination which is success.

A business can take so much of our time and effort that it can consume you. While you are engrossed in this ride, your family is not! We tend to forget to consult the one important thing, ‘Our Family’.

As we have started a new financial year, it is a good time to review your business plans and where you are heading. During this process it is vitally important to consult and incorporate your family goals and how this business is affecting the family. You may not like what they have to say, but ignoring their needs will only result in more issues for you and the business in the future. Honestly when I did this with my family, I found out that my kids wanted me around more and my wife does not like how much time I spend on the business, so I had take steps to fix this.

You need to find a balance life between your family needs and your business commitments. Because if you don’t, you might one day find yourself to be in business without the most important and stable asset that you can have: Your Family.

Best wishes until next time.
